Learn how to create lifelike vegetation for your model railway layout, diorama or scale modelling project using a variety of techniques and materials in this hands-on workshop. Using real nature photographs as references, you will discover how to recreate different types of grass meadows, railway embankments and waterside vegetation as realistically as possible.

Creating realistic vegetation involves much more than simply applying static grass fibres. Different landscapes require different techniques, materials and working methods. During this workshop, you will learn step by step how to combine the right colours, textures and vegetation types to achieve a convincing, natural-looking result.

This workshop is suitable for both beginners and experienced modellers looking to develop their skills further. Under expert guidance, you will gain hands-on experience using the RTS Greenkeeper and learn how to create various types of realistic vegetation.

Workshop Content: Creating Realistic Vegetation

During this workshop, we will cover the following topics:

• Analysing real nature photographs and translating natural vegetation into a realistic miniature landscape.
• Introduction to different types of grass meadows, railway embankments and waterside vegetation and their characteristic plant growth.
• Overview of different types of static grass fibres, fibre lengths and colour variations.
• Combining different grass fibres and colours to achieve a natural appearance.
• Building realistic grass textures with varying heights and vegetation densities.
• Using the RTS Greenkeeper to apply static grass fibres electrostatically.
• Understanding different types of adhesives and the correct techniques for applying grass fibres.
• Techniques for creating natural colour transitions, texture variations and depth.
• Recreating different types of vegetation, including short grass, wild meadows, railway embankments and waterside vegetation.
• Combining static grass fibres with other scenic materials to create a convincing, natural-looking result.

What Will You Learn During the Workshop?

During the practical session, you will create different types of realistic vegetation yourself. You will learn how to recreate lifelike grass meadows, railway embankments and waterside vegetation using the right materials, techniques and colour combinations.

Special attention will be given to selecting suitable static grass fibres, combining different fibre lengths, using various adhesives and working with the RTS Greenkeeper.

You will also learn how to use nature photographs as a source of inspiration and how to convincingly reproduce natural variations in vegetation, colour and texture.

By the end of the workshop, you will have gained the knowledge and skills needed to independently create different types of realistic vegetation for your own model railway layout, diorama or scale modelling project.
